Working his way upward through the ranks from being a union carpenter, he is now both President and Treasurer of the Phillips/May Corporation. He is responsible for two Contract Managers and twelve Project managers, as well as all corporate financial matters.  Under his direction, the company has shown a six-fold growth in revenue,  from the company’s formation in 1990 with an annual volume of $5 million, to an annual volume of over $30 million today. 

He was a founder and is an active member of the Hispanic Contractors Association of Dallas/Fort Worth.  He is also a twenty-one year member of the Dallas League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), and an eighteen year member of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

 

        

 

Gilbert L. Phillips — Vice President and Secretary

            

 

With over 54 years in the construction industry, he has served as Vice President and Secretary of the Phillips/May Corporation since forming the company with Gilbert May in 1990.  Prior to coming to Dallas, he was active in the acoustical and demountable wall system industry, serving as an Estimator, Sales Engineer, Designer, and as COO for a leading Subcontractor in Long Island, New York.  He became a Subcontractor, and then a Contractor in the Dallas area, operating in the United States from Texas to the East Coast.  Major projects have included design of the integrated ceiling system for the Dallas Central Library, and supervision of the installation of the system, and Construction Management Executive of six floors of the CenTrust Savings Bank in Miami, Florida.

Gil served in the United States Army from 1945-1947 and 1950-1952, and holds a B.S. in Education from the University of Missouri.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chris Escobedo — Contract Manager

 

 

 

With over 28 years of architectural and construction management experience, he currently serves as a Contract Manager for the Phillips/May Corporation, responsible for contract development and project management for the public sector division.  Current major contracts include: Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Dallas Independent School District and The University of Texas Southwest Medical Center.

He has been very active on many boards and in many organizations, including the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as both a board member and Outstanding Member for the year 1990; Housing and Economic Development Corporation of Dallas, Board Member; United States Department of the Treasury, National Hispanic Director for the US Savings Bond Marketing Program; Dallas Independent School District, Minority Business Advisory Committee Director; City of Dallas Urban Design Advisory Committee, Commission Member; and the Hispanic Contractors Association, Board Member, Vice-President, and subsequently President.

Chris holds a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley.

 

 

 

 

John Meek — Contract Manager

 

 

                                                                                          

 

John brings over 35 years of experience in the construction industry to his position as Contract Manager.  His experience includes handling a wide range of construction projects located both in the USA and worldwide.  His projects include commercial construction and renovation, large industrial industrial process plants and mechanical/electrical renovation of critical use facilities.  For seven years, he headed the joint venture between Phillips/May and Beck that furnished construction management services to AT&T (formerly SBC) in the North Texas Area.

 

Current projects include: school additions and renovations, commercial building additions and interior finish outs, telecommunication facility upgrades and park improvements.

 

John holds a B.S. in in Architectural Construction from Texas A&M University.
