Hall of State Improvements & Restoration

Work of the project included rehabilitation of the facade, blade sign, marquee, and entry of the Uptown Theatre, which was originally built in the 1950s. The theatre was brought together with other surrounding buildings to do a studio theatre (black box). Many of the renovations included new storefronts, plaster, masonry, and some structural work required for the storefront. The existing marquee and blade was cleaned and restored to reflect its original appearance. The neon was restored and new digital chaser controls were added. The soffit of the marquee was repaired and restored using historic steel panels as required. Interior work included demolition of the walls, ceiling, HVAC, wood stage, and doors. The stage was redone and an orchestra pit was added on as part of the renovation. This renovation has transformed the historic landmark movie theatre of Grand Prairie into a magnificent performing arts center.
